WEDNESDAY'S SHOPPING |
Despite quite several price increases this week on items that I buy regularly, I came in just slightly under my $50 budget for the week. The best deals of the week were the marked down guacamole from Aldi and the cheese, peanut butter, eggs and coffee from Kroger. Whenever I get coupons for Community coffee, I wait until Kroger has it on sale for $3.99 to buy it. I know that I said I probably wouldn't buy more coffee for a while but I couldn't pass up that deal.
The recent price increases were on the heavy cream, shower spray and canned green chiles. The price has also apparently gone up on the dryer sheets at Walmart but the shelf tag still had the old price so I insisted that they charge me the old price. I could have done the same for the heavy cream at HEB but I didn't feel like bothering and have to wait for someone to check the tag. The price was increased on the cream two or three weeks ago yet they still haven't updated the shelf tag which irks me. HEB's price on heavy cream and shower spray had been the same as Walmart's. So, today I checked to see if Walmart had also increased their prices. Sure enough, the shower spray is also $2.24 at Walmart. I couldn't verify the price on cream at Walmart because they were out of it as usual. That's the main reason why I started buying it from HEB. I just could never depend on Walmart to have it when I needed it. I did look at some shelf tags where I thought the cream should have been and it looked like they may have increased their price to $3.99. That's higher than HEB's price and I like HEB's cream better anyway.
I paid less for the guacamole at Aldi than the price on the shelf tag. It's sell by date is tomorrow so they must have marked it down even more. It was marked $1.19 and they charged me 99-cents. I put it in the freezer right away so it should be fine by the time I get around to using it.
I bought the orange so that I can add the zest to the orange Low Carb Poke Cake that I'll be making on Friday. I will probably also use the juice of the orange in place of some of the water when I make the jello. I don't think that will increase the carbs per serving all that much.
By the way, I did my shopping today because the weather is very nice and they're predicting thunderstorms for Thursday morning.
