WEDNESDAY'S SHOPPING

Despite quite several price increases this week on items that I buy regularly, I came in just slightly under my $50 budget for the week. The best deals of the week were the marked down guacamole from Aldi and the cheese, peanut butter, eggs and coffee from Kroger. Whenever I get coupons for Community coffee, I wait until Kroger has it on sale for $3.99 to buy it. I know that I said I probably wouldn't buy more coffee for a while but I couldn't pass up that deal.

The recent price increases were on the heavy cream, shower spray and canned green chiles. The price has also apparently gone up on the dryer sheets at Walmart but the shelf tag still had the old price so I insisted that they charge me the old price. I could have done the same for the heavy cream at HEB but I didn't feel like bothering and have to wait for someone to check the tag. The price was increased on the cream two or three weeks ago yet they still haven't updated the shelf tag which irks me. HEB's price on heavy cream and shower spray had been the same as Walmart's. So, today I checked to see if Walmart had also increased their prices. Sure enough, the shower spray is also $2.24 at Walmart. I couldn't verify the price on cream at Walmart because they were out of it as usual. That's the main reason why I started buying it from HEB. I just could never depend on Walmart to have it when I needed it. I did look at some shelf tags where I thought the cream should have been and it looked like they may have increased their price to $3.99. That's higher than HEB's price and I like HEB's cream better anyway.

I paid less for the guacamole at Aldi than the price on the shelf tag. It's sell by date is tomorrow so they must have marked it down even more. It was marked $1.19 and they charged me 99-cents. I put it in the freezer right away so it should be fine by the time I get around to using it.

I bought the orange so that I can add the zest to the orange Low Carb Poke Cake that I'll be making on Friday. I will probably also use the juice of the orange in place of some of the water when I make the jello. I don't think that will increase the carbs per serving all that much.

By the way, I did my shopping today because the weather is very nice and they're predicting thunderstorms for Thursday morning.

Tuesday's Shopping

As you can see, I bought Diet Cherry Pepsi again. The taste grew on me. Prices are gradually creeping up. The Pepsi used to be $3.55 and it's now $3.99 (closer to $5.00 at other stores). Cream is up from $3.56 to $3.78 and the Clean Shower is now $2.24 instead of $1.97. I'll check Walmart's price on the shower spray on Thursday. Theirs was always the same price as HEB's and I bet it went up there too. At least the jalapeños were a bargain so I'm making another batch pickles today.

I've got a can of asparagus in the pantry that's been in there for a VERY long time. I've been meaning to make the soup recipe for ages but never seem to get around to it. Maybe this time I will make it if only to use up the asparagus.

WEDNESDAY'S SHOPPING

The weather was nice so I did my shopping Wednesday afternoon instead of today.

I prefer Kroger's canned tuna over any of the name brands I've tried but I couldn't pass up the price on the Starkist. Kroger's was .79 and Starkist was on sale for 50-cents. Even with my senior discount, the Starkist was a better deal. By the way, that's more than half off the regular price. Not that Starkist is worth paying $1.09 per can for. It's not very good tuna, because it tends to be shreds of tuna fish floating in water, but it will be fine in a tuna casserole. Kroger's tuna is an actual chunk of fish.

As I mentioned on Tuesday, the Milky Way bar was a treat for my husband. It's not every day that you find one for only 25-cents and I thought he'd enjoy a treat.

I only bought four containers of yogurt this week because I'm going to stop eating it for a while. I go through phases where I lose my taste for sweet stuff in the morning and the nuts I put in it are expensive. I'll either eat quiche or eggs for breakfast or just have some cooked ground beef topped with cheese. I do like the convenience of having yogurt because I don't have to cook anything, other than to make my "crunchies" every couple of weeks, but it's time for a break.

Tuesday's Shopping

As you can see, I didn't buy much today. I haven't had Diet Cherry Pepsi in ages because it seemed like they had changed the flavor the last time I bought some. I think I was right because it still doesn't taste as good to me as it used to and it was always my favorite diet soda. So, I guess that the only diet soda that I like is Kroger's version of Dr. Pepper.

I found the Milky Way bar in the clearance bin at HEB so I bought Jerry a 25-cent treat.

I made a batch of Bread & Butter Pickled Jalapeños when I got back from shopping. The peppers were still 69-cents pound today and they were nice and fresh. I like to keep a spare jar of the pickled peppers in the fridge while we eat the previous batch because they improve with age. They taste much better after a week or two than when freshly made.

FRIDAY'S SHOPPING

I normally do my big grocery shopping on Thursday but it was raining Thursday morning and I didn't feel like going out. They weren't predicting rain for today so I thought I'd be smart and wait a day. Well, that backfired on me because it also rained today.

I went a little over budget this week because I bought a few things that weren't on my list. I ended up buying four bags of chips for Jerry because I didn't know that Kroger still had chips on sale for a buck until after I'd already bought two bags at Aldi. The eggs, butter and cream cheese weren't on my list but they were a good price at Aldi this week.

THURSDAY'S SHOPPING

I really blew the budget this week but I really couldn't pass up the meat deals at Food Town and Kroger. I had a coupon from Kroger for $3.00 off a $15.00 meat purchase. Since I was completely out of pork sausage, and it's on sale this week, I decided to splurge to use the coupon. The thing about the coupon was that it said that at least one item purchased had to be more than the amount of the coupon. The pork sausage was only $2.50 so I had to buy something else that was more than $3.00. Kroger has 3-pound bags of frozen boneless chicken thighs for $4.99 this week so that was what I got. I got the chicken and five rolls of sausage. Since they're both packaged meats, I also got my 10% senior discount on them. So, what I paid after the discount and the coupon works out to $1.59 pound which is a very good price for chicken and sausage.

Eggs were still 99-cents at Aldi so I picked up a couple dozen even though I didn't really need them. I could have gotten pizza sauce for 99-cents at Aldi but theirs has added sugar so I didn't buy it. This week the Ragu brand was cheaper than Walmart's own store brand by a couple cents so that's what I bought.

Tuesday's Shopping

I got all kinds of meat deals today! I bought another Boston butt pork roast and it's in the oven as I type this. It's very nice to see meat prices slowly going down again.
