The Broccoli and Chicken Stir-Fry will be my tweak of a recipe from The Neelys from Food Network. You can see the original recipe HERE.
I'm going to use the ham bone that I saved from our Christmas ham to make the "Split Pea" Soup this time. I usually buy smoked turkey legs but I might as well make use of the ham bone and save a LOT of money. Those smoked turkey legs are very expensive. There just won't be as much meat in the soup as usual unless I buy some diced ham to add to it. We'll probably have enough other main dish leftovers though that the soup won't have to be a main dish this time.
Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteWhere do you find the spice called Sambal Oelek? Can it be omitted?
It's not a spice, Georgene, it's a condiment. It comes in a small jar and I can find it in most stores in this area where they sell Asian foods. Here's a link to more info about it on my main site: Sambal Oelek. Yes, you can omit it. It mostly just adds heat to a dish. You wouldn't use enough of it to have it affect the flavor much.
ReplyDeleteI always use a leftover ham bone in the split pea soup recipe and it turns out great -- just be careful about the salt because some ham bones are really salty.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that will be a problem with the ham bone that I have. I didn't realize it when I bought it but the ham I got was a "lower salt" one. I think that may be why I liked it so much. Sometimes ham can be way too salty.
