GRAND TOTAL FOR THE WEEK - $66.36

I went over my budget by quite a bit this week but I really needed a new nightie with long sleeves for when it's cold and I figured that this was the best time of the year to get one marked down. The other night I put my hand through the shoulder seam of the one that I've been wearing for many years. I have plenty of summer nighties but only the one with long sleeves for cold weather. I found one at Walmart today on the clearance rack. It was marked down to $7.00 on the tag (orig. $11.96) but it rang up for only $5.00. I don't know yet if it will fit because it's a size 12/14. That was the smallest size they had but I'd rather it be a little roomy than too tight. For the price I'm sure it will do.

I also had quite a few household and personal items that I needed to stock up on such as the panty liners and Clear Passage strips, etc. Those strips really take a bite out of my budget every month and I had to knock several items off my list to keep the cost down for the week as much as I could.

I did splurge on the coleslaw mix. I'm going to make coleslaw tomorrow and I was going to buy a head of cabbage. But, they all looked really bad or they were gigantic and it was over 40-cents per pound. Rather than risk having to pitch most of a half-rotten head of cabbage, I just got the pre-shredded stuff. It probably would have cost me over a dollar anyway for one of the large heads that didn't look as scruffy as the smaller ones.

  1. I don't think clothing should count against your food budget. It's not on your list of cleaning supplies, or toiletries, or other items you have to buy at the grocery store. Just saying.

    1. Considering how seldom I buy clothes, it's not a big deal. If I were to shop just for clothes, I wouldn't count them into the budget but I usually count whatever I buy at Walmart while buying groceries. I count office supplies and things like that as well. One thing that I definitely would not count is ink for my printer if I buy it at Walmart. I also wouldn't count it if I had to replace a blender or toaster oven, etc. even if I bought it on the same trip as my groceries.

Speaking of toaster ovens, what brand do you have and do you recommend it? I'm going to need to buy one soon and so many have mixed reviews. Last year we moved into a house (lease) which has all new appliances, but cheap ones. Believe it or not, the fan over the stove/oven doesn't vent to the outside. It vents right back into the room - and it's made to do so! In the Texas heat last summer, running the gas oven for dinner raised the temps in the kitchen by 15 degrees - I dreaded cooking dinner. I have to get a big toaster oven before this summer to avoid using the oven when possible.

    1. Our range fan also vents into the kitchen instead of outside. The guy who installed our new stove said that's how they do it. He said it's only meant to disperse the smoke away from the stove area. Sounds like BS to me, LOL.

I don't know much about them but I have the Black & Decker toaster oven that's on this page of my website about halfway down the page: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/kitchen_gadgets_2.html

  3. I get my nasal strips from the 99 cents only store. If you have one in your area you could've gotten 6 boxes for the price you paid for one box. They also carry small stock of produce, also for 99 cents. I am in the Fort Worth area, so maybe Houston does too.

    1. Yes, we have a 99-Cents Only store here but I don't get over there very often. Were they the same brand that I bought? I have to get ones that have good adhesive on them because I have very oily skin. When the Clear Passage ones first came out, they didn't work for me because they would fall off during the night. They've improved them and now they work fine.
